Fill in the blanks, played live
Write one sentence, tap the words to turn into gaps, and add a few wrong words to the bank. Players fill the gaps from the bank on their phones, and the big screen shows the sentence come together at the reveal.
How it works
- 1
Write the sentence
Add a Fill the gaps question and type one sentence — a definition, a rule, a line of a poem, a fact from the lesson.
- 2
Tap the words to hide
A tap turns a word into a gap, a second tap gives it back. Up to six gaps, then add up to six wrong words to make the bank harder.
- 3
Play it in the room
Each phone shows the sentence with its gaps and the shuffled word bank. Players fill every gap and lock it in before the clock runs out.
Why a word bank works
A gap-fill asks for more than recognising the right option: the player has to read the whole sentence and decide which word belongs where. That makes it a good fit for vocabulary, grammar, definitions and any fact that lives inside a sentence.
The wrong words are where you set the difficulty. Add words that look plausible — the same part of speech, a near-miss term — and the question stops being a guessing game.
Scoring that rewards getting most of it
A sentence with every gap right scores like any correct answer, with the faster players taking more. A sentence with only some gaps right still earns part of the points, so one slip does not wipe out a good answer.
At the reveal the big screen fills in the sentence and shows how many players got each gap right, which is a quick way to see exactly which word the room did not know.
Kept fair
The full sentence never reaches a phone while the question is open — players see it with the gaps already blanked, and the answers arrive only at the reveal.
Fill the gaps sits in any quiz next to the other question types, so a revision round can mix gap-fills with multiple choice, matching pairs and ordering.
What you get
Tap to make a gap
No brackets or codes to learn in the builder — tap the word in your sentence and it becomes a gap.
Your own wrong words
Add up to six distractors to the bank and set the difficulty yourself.
Part points for part right
Every right gap counts, so a nearly-right sentence still scores.
Import from a file
A sentence with its missing words in [square brackets] in your spreadsheet or list comes in as a Fill the gaps question.
Questions people ask
How many gaps can one sentence have?
Up to six, plus up to six wrong words in the word bank.
Can the AI write fill-in-the-blanks questions?
Not yet. You write the sentence and tap the gaps yourself, which takes a few seconds. The AI can write the other questions in the same quiz.
Can I bring sentences in from a file?
Yes. Put the missing words in [square brackets] in an Excel or CSV file, or in a pasted list, and each one becomes a Fill the gaps question.
Do players need accounts?
No. They join from any phone browser with the PIN or the QR code and pick a nickname.
Is it free?
Yippito is in a free public beta: every feature is unlocked, games take up to 300 players, and there is no card to enter.
