Would You Rather Questions: 120 for Kids, Families, Teens and Work

Family · 9 min read

A group of friends sitting on the floor around a coffee table, laughing while playing a game together

Would you rather is the cheapest party game there is. No board, no cards, no rules to explain — just a fork in the road and a room full of people who suddenly have very strong opinions about duck-sized horses.

Here are 120 questions, grouped by who you are playing with, so you can skip straight to the set that fits the room. There are no right answers. The only real rule is that you have to pick one — “neither” is cheating, and so is “it depends”.

How to actually play it well

The questions are the easy part. What separates a round that fizzles from one people bring up a week later is how you run it.

Make everyone commit before anyone explains. Count down from three and have the room answer at once — hands up, thumbs, shout it. If one confident person answers first, half the room drifts towards them without noticing.

Then ask the why. The choice is not interesting; the reasoning is. Pick the two people who disagreed most and give them thirty seconds each. That is the whole game.

Let the minority defend itself. When a question splits 90/10, the ten per cent are the interesting ones. Hand them the floor before the majority starts explaining why they are obviously right.

Ban the hedge.“Neither”, “both” and “it depends” end the game. Every question has to produce a choice, however grudging — that constraint is the entire mechanic.

Turn it into a live vote

Hands in the air works for six people. For thirty — a classroom, a team meeting, a party — it stops working, because you cannot see the split and the shy half never votes at all.

That is what a poll question is for. Yippito has a Poll question type with no right answer: everyone votes on their own phone, the bar chart fills up live on the big screen, and the room gets to see it was 70/30 rather than guessing. It takes the awkwardness out of it — nobody has to put a hand up first — and the split itself becomes the thing you talk about.

Drop a handful of these questions in as polls, mix in a few real questions with actual answers for points, and you have a proper game rather than a list. If you want a full round of scored questions to sit alongside them, the pub quiz pack and the family quiz questions are both ready to go.

See how the room actually splits.

Everyone votes from their phone. The results appear live on the screen.
